2020 has been a nightmare but these matches could make 2021 the dream we all desperately need.

2020 has been a nightmare. Don't even bother trying to put a positive spin on it, best to leave it all in the past and get ready for a new year. 2021 can't be any worse, surely? Actually, it might be best to keep such hopes quiet, for fear of putting a jinx on next year before we even get there.

What better way to inject some positivity than by compiling a list of dream matches? Nothing warms the cockles like the thought of dreams coming true, especially if those dreams involve a squared circle, a referee made out of glass and simulated violence.

Professional wrestling is in a weird place right now, and the partnership between AEW and Impact has reignited dreams of matches fans may have given up on. Throw in WWE's increasingly desperate booking and tendency to hotshot matches and you've got a recipe for what could be a thrilling year, 12 months filled with memorable moments and matches that will stand the test of time.

Some of these are inevitable while others are hopeful at best, but all are not out of the question for 2021. Forget The Undertaker vs. Sting, these dream matches could happen. If they do, 2021 will see wrestling fans awaken from the nightmare that has been 2020.

10. Finn Balor Vs. Karron Kross

This match is inevitable. Pete Dunne and Kyle O'Reilly may have made compelling arguments for an NXT Championship match against Finn Balor, but the man who never lost the belt must be next in line. Whether or not it headlines New Year's Evil (lolz) remains to be seen, but Finn Balor vs. Karrion Kross is going to happen in 2021. That's a spoiler.

This match has been fated from the moment both men found their way to NXT. Balor vs. Kross are similar figures in modern professional wrestling, men who are all too aware that the sport needs to embrace influences from outside the squared circle, the importance of other media in bringing wrestling back towards the mainstream.

And now the two are on a real collision course for the most prestigious championship in NXT. Kross bludgeoned his way to the title back in August but had to relinquish the title immediately, four years and two days after Balor had gone through a similar experience himself. Whether NXT plays on that symmetry remains to be seen, but Balor vs. Kross is a big-money match that will inevitably happen in 2021.
