10 Wrestling Face/Heel Turns That Shouldn't Have Worked (But Did)
8. Neville Becomes 'King Of The Cruiserweights'
Neville's WWE career might be hanging in the balance at the moment. His reputation has never been higher, and he's at the height of his powers as both a wrestler as a character. If he hits the indies, he's going to be one of the hottest commodities on the planet, and it's all down to one thing: a late-2016 heel turn.
The Englishman showed his villainous side by destroying then-Cruiserweight Champion Rich Swann, before taking the title from him at the 2017 Royal Rumble. He was reborn with the turn, unlocking vaults of charisma that seemed non-existent before, and running the lowly 205 Live brand as one of the company's most consistent performers. It made Neville a truly three-dimensional performer who finally had the personality to match his prodigious in-ring talents, and it's tragic that WWE weren't able to make more of his upturn.
The two-time Cruiserweight Champion was nought but a bland, vanilla babyface prior to going heel. His moveset seemed too exciting and flashy for a turn to work, but he adopted a more vicious, methodical style to suit his new persona, saving his spectacular Red Arrow finisher for special occasions. He deserves immense credit the graft he put in to make this work, and if there's any justice in the sport, Neville will become a huge star wherever he lands.
