Speaking of announcers, Impact Wrestling regular Don Callis had some news this week on a major move that would have shaken the industry back in 2001.

On his Killing The Town podcast, Callis claimed Eric Bischoff had been in touch about bringing both he and Joey Styles in to become WCW's new announce team on a relaunched Nitro. That all hinged on Bisch's offer to buy the company outright going through. It didn't, of course, and that meant the proposed commentary team Eric wanted didn't see the light of day either.

This is all rather exciting. Hearing that ECW hero Joey Styles was in line to become WCW's next play-by-play man (presumably replacing Tony Schiavone in the role full time) is interesting. It also seems Bischoff didn't want to retain the services of Mark Madden as colour commentator either.

Callis said he's always admired how Bischoff took the fight to Vince McMahon, and he was intrigued by the thought of working for him in '01.
