Pause the action at the 1993 King Of The Ring at the right moment and you'll see one Jim Ross looking a tad perplexed about his first WWF pay-per-view gig. On his new Jim Ross Report podcast, the announcer admitted that he had a hard time enjoying the experience, because it was such a departure from his usual style.

In fact, JR believed he was on the receiving end of some heavy ribbing from Bruce Prichard.

Prichard was the one on talk back for Ross during the show, and he was responsible for producing other announcers like Randy Savage and Bobby Heenan too. According to JR, there was a concerted effort to make him look foolish on the night, even if it was only a practical joke.

Ross's Southern drawl and move-by-move delivery did seem to be a contrast to the WWF's more story-driven narration. He stuck it out though, and that's because he's one of (if not the) best in the industry at what he does.
