10 Wrestling Facts We Didn’t Know Last Week (Dec 6)
1. Why Kevin Owens Wanted To Change His Finish
Did you know: Kevin Owens first approached Steve Austin about using his iconic Stunner finisher back in 2016.
At the time, Owens was growing more and more frustrated by the number of Powerbombs permeating matches on WWE television. He told Corey Graves on 'After The Bell' that it felt like he couldn't watch a match without seeing some sort of variation of a move he was using as his main finish.
When he stopped to think about it, KO couldn't explain why his Pop-Up Powerbomb was more devastating than Roman Reigns' Sit-Out Powerbomb. That was problematic, and it's why Owens was compelled to seek out something different; several stars had used the Stunner as a one-off by 2016, but Kevin was keen to nail it down as his own.
Austin was eventually all for it. Owens respectfully approached him before using it for the first time at the 2017 Royal Rumble, and then started integrating it into his arsenal after that. Now, the Stunner has replaced the Powerbomb as his full time finisher.
