WWE's build towards WrestleMania 34 that had John Cena's trying to coax The Undertaker into a match was rather questionable. That continued in New Orleans when Cena was shown fraternising with fans and pretending he was having the time of his life. It was odd to watch, largely because Cena has been one of WWE's top stars for 15 years plus.

To him, it all about proving a point to others on the roster, not necessarily the fans.

When speaking to Sports Illustrated's Media Podcast, Cena told how he wanted to show that no spot was too small on a show like 'Mania, and he's proud of making it work. Each individual fan will have their own thoughts on whether it did or not, so it's hardly fair of John to paint his cheerleading as a major success.

Despite that, it was cool of him to try something unique when he could have power-played his way into a more major role on the card. It's also interesting to learn that he pitched the story so other, younger members of the roster would learn a lesson from his leadership and never take anything for granted.
