The next time anyone goes to bash Dolph Ziggler for never becoming the guy in WWE, remind them that he rescued an aging legend from the fires of despair this past summer. That was some task. At SummerSlam (and even before it), Dolph did a bang up job of ridiculing Goldberg so much that fans couldn't wait to see the WCW icon destroy him.

That short feud greatly helped Goldberg recover some of his battered pride. In an interview with Metro, he said he was struggling to tread water in a sea of negativity following his embarrassing performance at Super Show-Down in Saudi Arabia. After that nightmare, he just wanted to disappear forever, and wasn't sure he could put on a performance worthy of his star status again.

Ziggler changed his mind.

Goldberg needed a match like SummerSlam to restore his confidence. It was rock bottom after the 'Taker debacle, and he was hyper-critical of his own skill set before Dolph showed the way by agreeing to a classic Goldberg squash.
