10 Wrestling Facts We Didn't Know Last Week

6. Hulk Hogan Was Paid At Least $2 Million By WCW In 1998

Joining the promotion in 1994, Hulk Hogan became the highest paid performer in World Championship Wrestling very quickly. Hogan was viewed as WCW's ticket to competing with Vince McMahon and the WWF, and he'd play a pivotal role in the success of the company. Forming the nWo, Hulk morphed into one of the top heels in the entire industry, and he reaped substantial financial rewards. 1998 was a banner year for WCW. Hot on the heels of a wildly successful Starrcade '97, the company couldn't even keep merchandise in inventory. The demand for anything bearing the WCW or nWo initials was incredibly huge, and Hollywood Hogan led the way. This week, the man's contract with WCW from 1998 was revealed on the internet, and it showed some massive monetary gains. Something that was eye-opening about the deal was that Hogan received a $2 million signing bonus for putting ink to paper on the new contract. As if that wasn't enough, he was also paid in excess of $20,000 per appearance whenever he wore the nWo colours on TV shows not under the WCW banner. The bubble would start to burst the following year for the company, financially.
