When looking back at some of the most madcap stars in WWE history, 'Hacksaw' Jim Duggan is one that always stands out. Each and every time the big man marched down to the ring, he was toting his trademark 2x4 plank of wood, but it was never really explained why the man was carrying around the weapon, until now.

This past week, Duggan himself revealed the origins of the object, saying it was given to him by the late Bruiser Brody, mainly as a weapon he could use to defend himself from fans in Georgia Championship Wrestling. Before the 2x4, Duggan carried a feather boa with him to the ring, which was useless in clearing a path for him to storm through, and he was routinely mobbed by fans.

In Brody's mind, if Jim came roaring out from behind the curtain, hoisting his plank aloft and swinging the wood in front of him, people would part for him, and that's exactly what happened. It seems that the idea just stuck with him, giving the rather strange visual of a major babyface during the WWF of the 1980's and early-90's carrying a vicious weapon to ringside, yet rarely using it!
