WWE went all in on Daniel Bryan's change from beloved babyface to truth-talking heel who irked audiences by making them feel bad for their life choices last year. Suddenly, Bryan wasn't talking about fighting for one's dreams, he was chastising millions for treating their planet so poorly and calling himself the voice of reason.

Then, the writers got cold feet.

During an interview with Cheap Heat, the former WWE Champion said he was told to stop talking about the environment so much in his promos. WWE weren't comfortable with the environmental flourishes in his words, and felt his world-saving mic work was veering too close to politics. That, to Bryan, was total bullsh*t.

He still doesn't agree that protecting the planet is a political issue, and thinks it's more of a scientific debate if anything. Daniel wasn't given a say in the matter. That's why his promos stopped referencing eco-activism so much, and it's why he started to become more of a traditional heel before dropping the belt.
