Standing behind the curtain drenched in water and raring to go, Triple H also experienced a weird feeling of panic. In the intro to this article, the reasons for his lengthy sabbatical from WWF television were mentioned, but to recap The Game was Injured during a tag-team bout in May, 2001 and wouldn't return until the January 7, 2002 edition of Raw.

When he did, Madison Square Garden erupted in delight as they watched the man make his long-awaited comeback.

It's difficult to see things panning out any other way, but that's not how the wrestler himself viewed the situation before walking onto the stage. Triple H told EPSN that he was deathly worried that his babyface moment would fall flat and the people of New York would jeer instead of cheer him.

Worse yet, the returning hero - who had been a hated heel before going down with injury - had an inkling fans simply wouldn't care about his re-arrival on screens. All those fears were quickly allayed when MSG went crazy for Triple H in a moment that is still regarded as one of the most memorable returns of the modern era.
