10 Wrestling Facts We Didn't Know Last Week (August 16)

2. How Chris Jericho Changed WWE.com Forever

Before Chris Jericho came along, WWF.com was little more than a kayfabe companion piece for programming that was designed to further on screen storylines and characters. That was it. There was no news on things happening behind the scenes in the company, and there were no plans to peel back the curtain at all.

Jericho quite literally broke down some walls by signing.

Bruce Prichard admitted on his podcast that conversations took place in the board room about announcing Jericho's signing before the Wrestling Observer, PWTorch or any other newsletter, website or magazine had the chance. That's why the WWF proudly revealed that 'Y2J' had signed on the dotted line one month before he debuted on television despite the fact Jericho's WCW deal was still in effect.

That decision changed everything. From that moment on, the promotion viewed their website as a tool to give fans more insight than ever before into how the company operated. It'd still be heavy on kayfabe, but it'd sporadically discuss WWF business in a more in-depth fashion than it had previously.
