Asuka headlined WWE's first and last pay-per-views of 2018. That's not something the new SmackDown Women's Champion would have expected when she was toiling in the mid card for much of the year, and she told Tokyo Sports this week that something else unexpected happened post-TLC.

Backstage, waiting with a smile and a warm embrace, was one Vincent Kennedy McMahon.

According to Asuka, Vince told her he was proud of her efforts, loved the TLC main event with Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair, and that he was happy her year had ended on a high note. To Asuka, this meant everything and was arguably even more important than winning the title moments before.

The fact that McMahon produced the closing seconds of TLC, took off his headset then waited behind the curtain to congratulate Asuka shows how much he enjoyed the occasion. It also shows that Vince, contrary to what some may think, does have time for women's wrestling.
