10 Wrestling Facts We Didn't Know Last Week (Dec 22)
7. The nWo Sting Originally Used Facial Prosthetics
Sting must be one of the most imitated characters in wrestling history. Countless men have dressed up as him for feuds and angles, with the most memorable being Jeff Farmer. If that name doesn't ring any bells, just think of him as the 'nWo Sting' from 1996. You know, the one who barely looked like the real deal, but somehow tricked announcers anyway (and, later, WWE's home video department).
On the Two Man Power Trip Of Wrestling podcast, Farmer said WCW were determined to fool everyone into believing he was actually Sting at first. This meant gruelling sessions in the makeup chair for Jeff. One special effects worker was even tasked with making elaborate facial prosthetics that would make Farmer look like the Crow.
Eric Bischoff was the one who curtailed these plans. Feeling they were unnecessary, Bischoff ensured that Farmer was given a pair of contact lenses and a plaster-cast mask he would wear over his own face instead. This saved a lot of time, and meant he didn't need to undergo lengthy spells in makeup.
