Even the absolute best must move onto other things at some point, which is precisely why Jerry Lawler isn't a permanent resident behind the WWE commentary desk nowadays. Now that 'The King' has been put out to pasture as a full-time announcer for the company, he's much more likely to be found on Kickoff panels or in special one-off appearances.

Speaking with Sky Sports this past week, a reflective Lawler opened up to reveal his approach to announce duties over the years. Remarkably honest and willing to downplay his abilities, 'The King' said he has always viewed wrestling commentary as akin to having a conversation with your neighbour.

Always having fun at ringside was important to Lawler, which is likely part of the reason why his partnerships with the likes of Jim Ross and Michael Cole were so successful.

Most notably, the bashful Lawler also claimed that he didn't view commentary as "brain surgery", going on to say that he was just trying to be himself around ringside whilst keeping fans entertained.
