It's weird to fire up shows like the Royal Rumble and SummerSlam from 1990 on the WWE Network, only to hear Tony Schiavone's dulcet tones on commentary - and that's chiefly because Schiavone was so closely associated with WCW for fans who lived through the 'Monday Night Wars' of the 90s.

Providing an exclusive interview to Wrestling Inc, the longtime WCW announcer revealed for the first time his regrets over leaving the WWF for WCW; unable to afford house prices in the Stamford, Connecticut area, Tony accepted a lucrative offer from WCW after agonising over the decision at home.

Just as he had agreed to end his short stay in the WWF, the soon-to-be voice of WCW called Vince McMahon's secretary and said he wanted to stay there instead. It was too late.

According to Bruce Prichard on his 'Something To Wrestle With' podcast, McMahon was never a huge fan of Schiavone's anyway, but the boss also told Tony that he shouldn't move his family from Atlanta again in such a short space of time.

The rest is history. Schiavone stayed put in WCW, but that wasn't what he really wanted.
