For years, wrestling fans were under the impression that The Road Warriors and Demolition just didn't like one another. This was fuelled by suggestions that Ax and Smash had ripped off the team of Animal and Hawk. Decreed a 'WWF version' of The Road Warriors, it's hard to argue that Demolition were exactly that.

Yet, neither duo had a problem with the other. Speaking with Sports Illustrated's Extra Mustard, Animal claimed that he and Hawk were happy to see their friends doing well in the WWF. In Animal's mind, Demolition were a completely different kind of tag-team to The Road Warriors.

During the interview, Animal actually shares his belief that Bill Eadie and Barry Darsow were better in-ring wrestlers than Hawk or himself. Again, this is hard to discount, The Road Warriors favoured big power moves and regularly no-sold attacks from their opponents.

Going further, Animal stated that he and Hawk were very vocal with their displeasure to WWF management when it became clear both teams wouldn't work together extensively. There was no behind-the-scenes rivalry whatsoever.
