When Goldust first hit the scene in late-1995, he represented something different for the WWF. Androgynous traits and even borderline homosexuality were rife with the promotion's portrayal of their new character, it came out of left field. Then, the company were approached by the man's wife, Terri Runnels. She had something in mind.

Creating the character of Marlena, Terri would become a cigar-smoking director of sorts for Goldust. Mainly seen watching his matches from the comfort of her own golden chair, Marlena was a mysterious persona all on her own, but undeniably alluring and sexy.

If the creative team had been able to get their own way, things would have been very different.

Runnels appeared on The Ross Report podcast with Jim Ross this week, and the former announcer shared a very interesting story. Apparently, during one creative team meeting an idea was pitched to have Marlena literally have a prosthetic penis.

The extra body part would be subtle, according to Ross, but the message would definitely get across to fans. Horrified by this, Terri then went on to say she would have turned the idea down straight away.
