Most know the story of John Cena's transformation from generic newcomer to rapping villain by now. WWE management heard Cena laying down some rhymes from the back of the tour bus one evening, and decided to approach him about playing a different kind of character. There was just one problem, they didn't understand hip hop culture.

In an interview with Billboard's Ballin' Out podcast, Cena said that whilst WWE knew all about rock music, they were hopeless when it came to anything rap or hip hop. Once he agreed to start playing the new gimmick, he was horrified by the entrance music those in charge created for him.

A wishy-washy beat thumped behind some horrifyingly cheesy scratch sounds. Cena knew then that he had to take matters into his own hands, so he decided to write his own music. From there, he actually put together enough material over the next few years that he was able to release his own album.

This would never have happened had Cena not detested that first gimmicked music crafted for his new rap persona.
