10 Wrestling Facts We Didn't Know Last Week (July 22)
7. The WWE Champion Will Appear On Both Brands
In 2002, the then-WWF split Raw and SmackDown into two distinct rosters. Along the way, they also began separating some of the titles, eventually adding the World Heavyweight Championship (as a Raw exclusive) in September of that year. For months beforehand, there had been just one Undisputed WWE Champion, working between both brands.
According to the Wrestling Observer, that's something the promotion are interested in doing again. The newsletter reported that WWE might refrain from adding a second World Title to the trophy list until well after SummerSlam, meaning that whomever comes out of Battleground with the belt would trade appearances between both Raw and SmackDown.
The current champ, Dean Ambrose was drafted to SmackDown. It's interesting to imagine that he might not work solely on that show each week, occasionally stirring up feuds and having matches on Raw too.
This is exactly the same as what happened back in 2002, although there's a chance that WWE may add that second World Title after just a few months. For now though, there are no plans to do so.
