Sports and pro wrestling are undoubtedly linked, even now WWE enjoy scouting top prospects from the world of American Football to fill out their ranks. That mindset makes sense, the company enjoy working with natural athletes, offering these men and women something a little different.

For TNA's Abyss, the groundwork he experienced on the football field allowed him to have the correct outlook when launching a career in wrestling. During an interview with USA Football, the literal monster of a man revealed that he still uses many of the techniques he picked up during his youth when playing the sport. Abyss links these back to wrestling.

For example, he sees very little difference between getting hyped up for a football game and getting prepared for a wrestling match. On field, the man was expected to know what part he had to play, and therefore would picture the game before playing it.

In similar fashion, Abyss says that wrestling bouts play over in his head before he even steps through the curtain. It may not work for everybody, but Abyss uses his sporting experience to his advantage as a performer.
