For years, Clash Of The Champions provided wrestling fans with pay-per-view quality matches (at points) on free television in the NWA and later WCW. Running right up until 1997, the Clash events were initially great slices of programming that gave people more than the usual TV fare, more so during the late-1980's and early-1990's.

Since '97, the name has been dormant, but PWInsider have reported that WWE may be looking to bring it back. This could be something to do with chat regarding the impending brand split, and the idea that the promotion wish to run more 'specials' than ever before between Raw and SmackDown.

Should have happen, Clash Of The Champions could be an ideal name to bring out of the archives and act as a regular event on the WWE Network. It's actually striking that WWE don't already own the rights to the title, instead owning the rights to each event in the series for use on their subscription service.

Unlike the Legion Of Doom, the Clash is one many older fans would likely welcome back with open arms.
