10 Wrestling Facts We Didn't Know Last Week (June 23)

1. The People's Elbow Was Designed To Pop The Boys

The Rock Bray Wyatt

The People's Elbow finishing move is often regarded as one of the most outlandish in WWE history. Pulling an elbow pad from his arm, The Rock then surveys the scene, performs a short gesture, runs the ropes (vaulting over his opponent in the process) and then finally drops the elbow.

Triple H said on BBC Radio One that Rocky introduced the move as an attempt to make his peers laugh, not to thrill the fans. In other words, The People's Elbow started as a joke amongst the boys backstage and was never meant to be taken seriously. All The Rock was trying to do? Make co-workers standing on the ring apron corpse during tag matches.

Keeping your composure was hard to do at first, claimed Triple H, but things changed over time and fans accepted the move as a big part of Rocky's arsenal. Nobody saw that one coming, least of all The Rock, but he decided to embrace the support and continue using the move.
