10 Wrestling Facts We Didn't Know Last Week (Mar 4)
2. Bill Dundee Questioned Vince McMahon Over WrestleMania
As mentioned during the introduction to this article, the very first WrestleMania was a mixture of pro wrestling matches and celebrity appearances. The live entertainment spectacle was the brainchild of Vincent Kennedy McMahon, who believed celebrity star power was the key to ensuring the event was a rip-roaring success and connected with the mainstream. That didn't sit well with many others in the industry. Shortly after 'Mania, legendary Memphis Wrestling star Bill Dundee accepted a request from McMahon to meet him at his family home. The Scottish-born grappler was there to discuss possibly coming into the WWF fold but couldn't see eye-to-eye with Vince on anything to do with wrestling. Unbelievably, he also questioned the almighty WWF patriarch on WrestleMania. The Two Man Power Trip Of Wrestling podcast conducted this interview with Dundee, and they must have been stunned when he told of asking McMahon why he used the likes of Liberace on his event. Vince's answer was that the business had changed, and that he had a different way of doing things from the old time promoters. Following lunch, Dundee left the McMahon residence and never went back.
