Despite the fact he's purposely doing it wrong in the pic accompanying this entry (what a heel), the Honky Tonk Man genuinely didn't know how to properly play the guitar when he first started using the gimmick. In fact, he barely knew how to hold the thing at all.

During an interview with Wrestling Inc, Honky told how Hulk Hogan had to show him where to put his hands so it didn't look like the Elvis impersonator had never seen the instrument before. As Hulk could play the bass guitar, Honky trusted him, and knew being able to hold the thing properly would help his character in the long run.

Honky's original plan had been to strum wildly at the guitar without thinking about where his other hand might be holding the neck. That's where Hogan stepped in and said it might be best if his pal put his fingers in the shape of at least one real chord.

Thanks, Hulk.
