Today's Raw tapings are big-budget. WWE may have scaled down on pyrotechnics, but they still spend a truck load of cash on everything from lighting and TV production to backstage catering. The roster are taken great care of behind the scenes, now - but they once had to fend for themselves.

On an episode of his Dinner With The King podcast, Jerry Lawler recalled the cramped backstage atmosphere at the Manhattan Centre for early tapings of Raw in 1993. Upon arriving at the arena (if it could even be called that), Lawler and others would fight for space to get dressed. Often, Jerry would set up camp on a nearby stairwell.

This might not be abnormal to anyone who has been backstage at an independent wrestling show, but this was the World Wrestling Federation. Locker room space was limited during those first few Raw shows, meaning even top names had to take what they could get.
