Lanny Poffo, the brother of Randy Savage, has always been candid in interviews about the Macho Man's career. His latest chat came with Sean Waltman on The 1, 2, 360 podcast. During that interview, Poffo told Waltman directly what Randy had hoped for before agreeing to hang up his boots in the WWF.

Placed behind the announce table by Vince McMahon, Savage felt he could have a great match with Shawn Michaels. Many fans already know this, and it's something that has come out before. Fresh knowledge is that Randy was desperate to top his WrestleMania III bout opposite Ricky Steamboat, and didn't feel he could rightly retire until he had.

Therefore, he wanted a protracted storyline with Michaels. Eventually, this would lead to a 'Hair vs. Career' showdown at WrestleMania, with Savage losing the encounter and being forced to go back on commentary duties.

Naturally, this didn't end up happening and Randy departed for WCW instead. It's captivating to learn that Savage was so determined to top what had come before at 'Mania III. This explains his frustration at being stuck behind the announce table.
