Had WWE accepted Bret Hart's request to be a stay-at-home member of the creative team, then we'd live in a world where both Bret and Shawn Michaels worked as key components behind the scenes. It wasn't to be though, because Hart didn't want to travel on the road other than for key shows or pay-per-views.

On the Sam Roberts Wrestling Podcast, Bret revealed that he pitched the idea to join creative "4 years ago", which means he almost became a WWE writer in 2013. That was the year Daniel Bryan would rise to main event status, and there's no doubt Bret's knowledge of working smartly as a smaller man in the company would have helped his cause.

Neither Vince McMahon nor Triple H were convinced that Bret would enjoy the tough WWE schedule at the time, so they turned down his idea flat. Hart had wanted to simply send in ideas for television, including promos, finishes and storylines, but wasn't interested in living on the road again.
