10 Wrestling Facts We Didn't Know Last Week (Oct 9)
10. The Nexus Rise Killed Drew McIntyre's Push
When the Scot first appeared regularly on WWE television in the Summer of 2009, Drew 'McIntyre' Galloway was endorsed by none other than Vincent Kennedy McMahon and treated like the 'Chosen One' of the promotion's management. This was a big deal for the wrestler, and it was clear he was one the company had high hopes for to make it at a top level. Eventually, Drew's initial push was dropped coldly in 2010. At the time, reports of a hotel incident between the man and his then-wife, Taryn 'Tiffany' Terrell were all over the place. The internet was full of speculation over domestic violence, including TMZ. As a result WWE were furious, and Drew was shunted down the pecking order in terms of WWE's priorities. In an interview this week, Drew refused to attribute that particular incident as the sole reason for his push declining. Instead, he feels that it was actually The Nexus bursting onto the scene that aborted his run, due to the fact they eliminated Vince McMahon from TV. This seems to suggest that there were still grand plans for the 'Chosen One' character, before WWE turned their attention to The Nexus group.
