10 Wrestling Facts We Didn't Know Last Week (Sept 24)
9. Jim Ross Didn't Come Away From Raw Feeling Cruiserweights Were 'Special'
This past Monday on Raw, WWE debuted their new Cruiserweight division. Before a match between Brian Kendrick, Gran Metalik, Rich Swann and Cedric Alexander got underway, General Manager Mick Foley stated that the winner would challenge T.J Perkins for the WWE Cruiserweight Title come the Clash Of Champions pay-per-view.
Eventually, it was Kendrick who walked away with the win. Writing a blog post on his own official website, former WWE (and future WCPW) announcer Jim Ross said that he didn't come away from the program feeling the Cruiserweights were able to stand out as much as they should have done.
Ross's view was that it would have been better to highlight Perkins, putting over the fact he's the new champion and introducing him to the audience before establishing his main challenger. As for the actual Fatal-4-Way itself, JR believed it to be fairly predictable, even if he did enjoy the match overall.
Crucially, Ross thought a lack of time on the microphone from the talents themselves hurt their connection to the fans. JR didn't feel the Cruiserweight match felt special enough.
