Wrestling fans have been told for years that it was Eric Bischoff who decreed that Rey Mysterio must shed his mask in WCW to become more marketable. The truth is that yes, Bisch did have final say on the change, but Rey himself claims his ex-boss wasn't the one who first came up with the idea.

Hey yo.

Yep, according to Mysterio it was Scott Hall who first pitched the de-masking. Rey said this during an interview with legendary wrestling journalist and photographer Bill Apter for the magazine mogul's Apter Chat show. Back in the late-90s, Hall said that Rey Rey was a "pretty motherf*cker" and had a baby face he believed would sell.

Mysterio wasn't so sure, and he wasn't exactly keen to give up his Mexican wrestling heritage. Once Bischoff caught wind of the idea though, it was all systems go, and Rey didn't have much of a choice. Suddenly, everyone was on the bandwagon. The mask had to go.
