10 Wrestling Facts We Didn't Know Last Week

1. Degenerate Hulkamania

Hulk Hogan Dx Definitely the crown jewel of this list, Prichard exposed that the then-WWF creative team pitched a story which would see none other than Hulk Hogan return to the company, reveal himself to the leader of D-Generation X, win the Heavyweight Title, and then drop the belt to Steve Austin at Wrestlemania 14 in the Spring of 1998, passing the torch in the process. To think of Hogan leaving WCW in late-'97, when the company were hot, is unfathomable, but this was a real story the writing team felt they could pull off. Who knows if Vince McMahon was in contact with Hogan at the time, but this one had to come from somewhere, creative teams don't just pitch impossible storylines out of thin air. Hulk still had his match with Sting to content at Starrcade 1997, which was the biggest drawing bout in WCW history up to that point, but would he really have thrown all that away for another run with the WWF? According to Prichard, this was a genuine angle which could have happened. Many fans have fantasy booked Hulk Hogan vs. Steve Austin, a match that will likely never happen now, but again, this is another story which could have changed wrestling forever had it actually happened. What do you make of these facts? Some of them seem outlandish, but even the most ridiculous are based on the words of people within the industry. Who knows what direction wrestling would have taken had some of them happened, and who knows where the future of the business is headed due to some of the others!
