10 Wrestling Gimmicks That Failed Before They Started

8. 3 Count's Biggest Fan Tank Abbott

The idea seemed simple: take a legit UFC fighter with a mean look and transplant him into the pro wrestling world, where he'd be a formidable opponent for just about anyone, up to and including Goldberg. Easy money, right? The problem: WCW chose Tank Abbott. He wasn't the best mixed martial artist (these days he's busy calling out Ronda Rousey) and he was definitely not a guy who had any business being inside a wrestling ring. Now, you can't blame Abbott - he was given an opportunity, and he took it. However, the booking here was awful and only got worse as it went on. After the idea of Abott as a challenger to the mighty Goldberg was dropped (a proposed title reign for the former UFC star led to Vince Russo's dismissal), Abbott was given a gimmick that involved him being the "biggest fan" of WCW's boy band parody 3 Count. When they wouldn't let him join the band, they feuded, after which Abbott was gone from the promotion (in about the same time that the average boy bond comes and goes, actually).
