10 Wrestling Gimmicks That Only Lasted ONE Segment

5. “God”

Ahem.

Vince McMahon has never been the kind of promoter who shies away from controversy. In fact, he subscribes to that old Eric Bischoff quote (which was also the title of Bisch's book): "Controversy Creates Cash". This was never more true than at Backlash 2006.

Six years on from tarting Big Show up like Hulk Hogan, Vince decided that he should annoy the living sh*te out of the religious community too. WWE promoted a tag bout pitting Vince and Shane McMahon vs. Shawn Michaels and "God". Yes, as in the deity Christians believe created the entire universe.

Is it really any real shocker that people were miffed?

"God" turned out to be a spotlight that "walked" down the ramp live on pay-per-view and gobbled up box office dollars like some cruel rib on the audience. This was supposed to lampoon Shawn's born again Christianity, but it just wasted everybody else's time.
