Being Vince McMahon's friend must be an absolute trial. When the Chairman's pool crew aren't toadying up to their mate to maintain favour, they're being mercilessly tormented with a brand of humour below most CBeebies presenters - and forced to laugh along with it.

Gerald Brisco's punishment for his long-term amity was to be wheeled out alongside fellow McMahon acolyte Pat Patterson for a series of degrading skits with little regard to either man's industry legacy, fine-tuned to make the boss - and only the boss - howl. Hyuck hyuck hyuck!

Before the tone of WWE programming had sufficiently declined for the stooges to compete in evening gown matches, Vince had to get his digs in more subtly. One way was to totally undermine the grossly underrated Tracy Smothers, straddling him with a good ol' Southern Boy gimmick named for Briscoes Jack and Gerald - real names Freddie Joe and Gerald Floyd. The man, coincidentally also from Bowlegs, OK, was presented as a retrograde loser - though that could have had as much to do with confronting The Undertaker backstage as anything.
