10 Wrestling Interviews That Went Very Wrong
6. Ric Flair Gets Jim Ross Fired
A controversial pick, this one, as it's genuinely difficult to put any blame at the feet of either man. The cliff notes are that, at a WWE event for the launch of the latest 2K game, Ric Flair got drunk and went considerably, uncomfortably off script, and Vince McMahon fired Jim Ross for not better managing the situation. However the detail within that is... well, not great reading.
Had this been just another event in the wrestling promotional calendar it likely would have passed without incident, but WWE asked Flair to attend despite it being mere months after the death of his son Reid. During the 2K panel, a clearly intoxicated Flair essentially took over proceedings and began to regale the crowd with a number of stories WWE would likely have not been too pleased with. Starting with how much John Cena drinks, and then eventually moving on to his late son.
The wounds were understandably still fresh for the Nature Boy and reports of the event quickly spread back to Vince who, blaming JR for not better controlling the situation, forced his retirement on him. News of the whole situation made it out thanks to Uncle Dave and the Wrestling Observer, making it a disastrous PR situation for the company.
