10 Wrestling Legends PG Fans Should Know (But Probably Don't)

8. Eddie Gilbert

Eddie Gilbert Eddie Gilbert was from a wrestling family and during the early 80s, he was featured in preliminary matches on various WWE cards. Although it was in the Memphis territory that he became one of the notorious villains in the business. In truth, Gilbert's style was very similar to Jerry Lawler, but he took more bumps, as he was often a heel. More so than Gilbert's matches, he was involved in many memorable angles that don't get mentioned today, which is probably because nobody directly owns most of the Memphis footage so it hasn't been released to the general public. Gilbert was involved in one of he infamous Tupelo concession stand brawls, he hit Lawler with a car, and there were many other memorable interview segments. Eddie Gilbert's mic skills and his charisma are what allowed him to be such a great heel, but he had memorable matches in the NWA and on the independents as well. Specifically, the Gilbert/Cactus Jack matches in 1991 became well known on the independent scene. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G27ssw7Np4c Sadly, Gilbert passed away from at heart attack in 1995 and he get mentioned today as one of the early bookers of ECW, but most current fans probably don't know about the famous angles.
