ECW was known for wild brawls and hardcore matches featuring everything from steel chairs and kendo sticks to thumbtacks and flaming tables. Surprisingly, the hardcore promotion wasn’t particularly known for its use of steel cages. There were a number of cage matches throughout the company’s nearly decade-long existence, but they rarely managed to stand out among the countless more violent affairs on offer.

However, ECW tried its hand at a WarGames-like bout on three occasions with their Ultimate Jeopardy cage match. The contest featured two teams of multiple members entering at timed intervals. The ECW version saw a coin toss conducted to determine each entrant, meaning one team could have multiple members enter the match in a row. Furthermore, the Ultimate Jeopardy match only made use of one ring and an ordinary steel cage.

1994’s bout saw Shane Douglas pin Terry Funk to win the ECW title, while 1995's saw Raven and Tommy Dreamer captain their own respective teams. The final Ultimate Jeopardy match at 1999’s CyberSlam saw the teams whittled down from five members each to only three as Mustafa and the Dudley Boyz battled New Jack, Balls Mahoney, and Axl Rotten inside the cage.
