10 Wrestling Matches Inspired By The Original WarGames

4. WCW: Tower Of Doom

Originally debuting at the 1988 Great American Bash, the Tower of Doom -- a triple cage, one atop the other -- was a variant on the WarGames concept. Also known as the Doomsday Cage, this match was only ever used sparingly in WCW. While an interesting concept, it failed to ever live up to The Match Beyond itself.

The original bout saw two teams compete, with each member entering the small cage on top of the structure at timed intervals. Competitors then fought their way down through the levels with the goal being for all of a team's members to escape the bottom cage. It was a convoluted bout. 1995’s followup Doomsday Cage match has since become infamous thanks to Hulk Hogan and Macho Man vanquishing an enormous slew of opponents --including Ric Flair, Lex Luger, and the entire Dungeon of Doom -- with powder and frying pans in a laughable affair.

The final Tower of Doom was held at 2000's Slamboree and saw David Arquette defend his WCW World title against Jeff Jarrett and Diamond Dallas Page -- the structure having previously been featured in the "Ready to Rumble" movie. Interestingly, later that same year, the last-ever WCW WarGames bout utilized the triple cage structure rather than the traditional setup.
