...David Penzer!

He'd have become the third least credible WCW Champion, astonishingly.

On the October 2, 2000 WCW Monday Nitro, ring announcer David Penzer captured the company's flagship belt - the very reason, in kayfabe, for which the promotion existed.

The records show that Booker T won the 'San Francisco 49ers Match' over Jeff Jarrett by last retrieving the box in which it was held. Four boxes were erected above the ring, all of which included a mystery item: a sex doll, a framed picture of released alcoholic Scott Hall, a coal miner's glove in order to mock wrestling when it was wrestling and people cared about it, those f*cking marks, and the title itself.

Guy opens box, wins match.

The match was a shambles by its very design. Booker T sold it as a shambles on purpose. The idea, possibly, wasn't to send up wrestling by a man who knew he'd failed spectacularly at booking it but rather to position Booker as the one homegrown star who still gave a single sh*t about what those initials embodied.

That being the case, the production crew should have cut away the second that, per the rules of the match, Penzer won the title when the belt fell into his arms. But they did not.

Because WCW.

Is WWE as bad as 2000 Nitro? Despite everything, WWE would never make a mockery of its World Title.

Apart from that time Jinder Mahal held it, obviously.
