10 Wrestling Matches That Are So Bad They Are Hilariously Awesome
1. Scott Steiner Vs. HHH - Royal Rumble 2003
Simply put I LOVE this match. There are no if, buts, or maybes about it - this must be the greatest ‘bad' match in WWE history if not wrestling history in general. In fact, the whole feud was a disaster, with just so much wasted potential.
But honestly, between the incredibly homoerotic posedowns, the legitimately awesome promo video (YouTube it!), and the atrocious brawling between two competitors 'roided to within an inch of their lives, there is so much fun to be had with this match.
What is so perversely funny about it, is that Steiner's repeated use of suplexes should actually work. After all, wrestling fans today salivate when Brock Lesnar repeats suplexes one after the other on unwilling opponents.
When the clearly gassed and out of ideas Big Poppa Pump starts repeating belly to belly suplexes on the cerebral assassin, however, the crowd starts to turn on him, and he becomes hilariously angry.
The high point comes when, while taunting the obviously aggrieved crowd (keep in mind that Steiner was meant to be the face here), he goes for yet another suplex, but is too exhausted to pull it off properly and botches it.
Both the competitors just land in an ugly laundry pile, while Jim Ross tries in vain to explain what happens. It’s hilarious for all the wrong reasons.
And even though the match ends in the most confused and tepid way imaginable, I would happily pay to see Steiner hit HHH in the face with his sledgehammer and put him in the Steiner Recliner again.
It's not an image we got to see a lot (particularly in 2003), and it was the perfect ending for a match that made basically zero sense, and would destroy one of the most exciting feuds that WWE could produce after botching the invasion.
