10 Wrestling Matches That Changed Fans Opinions On Certain Wrestlers
5. Randy Orton Vs Cactus Jack (WWE Backlash 2004)
if there were three things Mick Foley could do better than anyone it was take bumps, lose body parts, and get over new stars.
He had had an uncanny knack for solidifying new and emerging talent. One only has to watch his war with Triple H from Royal Rumble 2000 to see that. Equally, they could watch this bloodbath from Backlash four years later.
Randy Orton was deep into his legend killer run when he first confronted Foley. After months of humiliation, Foley finally snapped and challenged the young Viper to face off against his ultimate persona, Cactus Jack.
Whilst this match was technically for the Intercontinental Championship, it was really an exercise in getting Orton over as a major player. Like Triple H before him, Randy took a ton of punishment at the hands of his opponent, including bumps onto barbed wire and thumbtacks. He came away with the win the end and also walked out of the match as a bona fide star.
This opened the door for the rest of Randy's career, which really speaks for itself. It's important to remember though that none of it would likely have happened were it not for Mrs. Foley's Baby Boy.
