10 Wrestling Matches Which Quickened Edge's Retirement

8. Edge Vs. John Cena (Unforgiven 2006)

Perhaps more than any other performer, John Cena had excellent chemistry with Edge. The pair would square off numerous times before the latter retired from the ring, and the matches were mostly enjoyable. Another cracker occurred at Backlash 2009, but the Unforgiven 2006 battle between the pair is the subject of our focus here.

The main reason for this is an insane bump which definitely didn't do anything to lengthen Edge's career. Laying prone on Cena's shoulders at the top of the ladder, Edge must have braced himself for what was to come. Within seconds, he was hurtling through the air, landing crisply on multiple tables following an F-U (now known as the Attitude Adjustment).

It was a nasty bump, but the kind that fans had been conditioned to expect from such a bout. It wasn't the only one in the match; Edge also landed awkwardly on a ladder from a powerbomb, and threw several steel chair shots into the bargain. The man's neck must have been feeling it following that match-ending crash.
