10 Wrestling Matches Which Quickened Edge's Retirement

7. Edge Vs. Christian (No Mercy 2001)

No Mercy 2001 was the blow off point for the rivalry between former partners Edge and Christian. The previous month at Unforgiven, the pair had produced a match that was something of a letdown, but hopes were high for their ladder match in October.

A full two years on from their infamous match against The Hardy Boyz at the same pay-per-view, it seemed certain that they'd produce magic. In a sense, they did, but there was something gritty about the contest. It didn't feel quite as flashy as previous ladder bouts even though both guys worked hard and put themselves through some tremendous punishment.

One notable bump for Edge saw him perform his Edge-O-Matic onto Christian from atop one of the ladders. Even that must have jarred his neck, landing flush on his backside and tilting his head forwards.

In addition, Edge hit a spear on Christian, taking his real-life friend to the mat from the top of the ladder again. That can't have been a fun landing for either man, and Edge had to be careful not to land face first on the canvas.
