10 Wrestling Matches Which Quickened Edge's Retirement

5. Edge Vs. Kurt Angle (Judgment Day 2002)

Speaking of the German suplex, it was out in force during Edge's series of matches against Kurt Angle in 2002. The duo had a spirited rivalry, and it actually provided the best matches the Canadian would have during his initial singles run. Naturally, Angle was on fire, and the pair worked well together.

It's notable to mention that Edge took one of the best German suplexes around. He'd launch himself high into the air, leaping at the perfect point in harmony with the backwards throw of Angle. Each bump looked spectacular, but the fact that Edge seemingly wanted to impress would cost him dearly months later.

Lance Storm has hinted during a previous blog post that he believes Edge's neck problems in 2003 stemmed from the thumping landing on each German. Of course, his previous involvement in TLC matches and other assorted hard-hitting bouts didn't help, but the matches with Angle were probably too much for his neck to take.

The appropriately breakneck speed he would wrestle at whilst tagging with Rey Mysterio later in 2002 probably didn't help either, but man those German bumps were thunderous.
