10 Wrestling Matches You Won't Believe Happened In 2017

7. The Shield (ft. Kurt Angle) Vs. The Miz Et Al

A year ago, granted, rumours that Kurt Angle was about to return to a WWE ring for the first time in a decade were beginning to gather pace. It wasn't inconceivable that he would fight a few more matches.

This, however - by which we mean, the sight of Angle in a regulation Hounds of Justice uniform - came pretty much completely out of the blue (even to the company's own creative team, who concocted the idea at the last-minute after injury to Roman Reigns).

Even after he was installed as Raw general manager in the spring, this wasn't really on the cards. After all, The Shield are supposed to represent the very antithesis of the wrestling rule book - why would the man who is entrusted to enforce it ever have any occasion to fight on their side?

Well, the truth is WWE makes very little sense at the best of times. Let's just enjoy it for what it was: one heck of a feel-good wrestling moment, the like of which you only get a handful - if you're lucky - over the course of 12 punishing months.
