10 Wrestling Matches You Won't Believe Happened In 2017
4. War Games
Vince McMahon has, on the whole, been slow to embrace the creations of his rival wrestling promotions. He took five years to discover that there was money in ECW nostalgia, and 15 to realise that Goldberg was best booked in sub-two-minute squash matches.
When it came to War Games, it seemed like the chairman of the WWE board wasn't interested at all. If he was, then surely the concept would have been rolled out during that heavily experimental mid-2000s era, which saw the debut both of the Concrete Crypt Match and the Punjabi Prison.
We were surprised this year, however, when WWE announced that - not only would it be introducing War Games to a new generation of fans - but, in fact, building an entire Network event (albeit "just" an NXT show) around the gimmick.
It was a sight many of us never thought we'd see, and whilst War Games hasn't yet got an airing on the main roster, the overwhelmingly positive manner in which it was received - two rings, so we would learn, means double the action - it could yet become a permanent WWE fixture.
