If someone had told you, two years ago, that the WWE Championship match at SummerSlam 2017 would pit title-holder Jinder Mahal against Shinsuke Nakamura, you'd have thought that they were absolutely mad.

At that point, the future Modern Day Maharaja was naught more than a jobber whose career highlight was the time he briefly became incensed by The Great Khali's Kiss Cam. Put bluntly, it seemed more likely he would be out of a job in a couple of years time than wear world title gold.

As for Nakamura, his main event credentials were never in doubt, except perhaps by Vince McMahon. To most fans, the dream of seeing the King of Strong Style at the top of the WWE card was just that, thanks to the perception of the chairman as being hopelessly out of touch with the business.

Even as recently as March it would have taken a brave man to bet on this match getting booked - and yet, whatever you think about it, here we are. It's things like this which make trying to accurately predict what will happen in 2018 a truly unenviable task.
