10 Wrestling Matches You Won't Believe Happened In 2020
6. Joey Janela Vs Jimmy Lloyd (GCW Acid Cup II Night 2, March 20th)
With the global health crisis sabotaging most of wrestling's big weekends in 2020, the insane GCW match graphics that often fill these articles were in short supply.
In place of getting the Beverly Brothers back together or booking Hornswoggle and Dink against Giant Silva and The Great Khali, Joey Janela worked a match against Jimmy Lloyd in an undisclosed location that yet again played with the form in a way that felt more relatable than any of the empty arena wrestling that had so rapidly become the norm.
In a match that requires earnest disengagement to truly engage, Janela and Lloyd worked a normal contest but with "Social Distancing Rules" - performing he spots the regulation distance apart from one another. As if Invisible Man (or Stan) was there himself acting as a conduit, the pair felt every strike, hold and tackle even if contact was made with the air near them.
With the taboo of being within touching distance of anybody still prevalent everywhere but wrestling, there was something typically progressive about yet another epic gag of a match.
