In 2019, ’The Fallen Angel’ Christopher Daniels returned to AEW competition to face Lucha Brothers’ Pentagón Jr., the man who put him out of action with a trapped nerve. The match involved Daniels attempting a springboard moonsault outside the ring but botching it, landing on his back and nowhere near Pentagon. The commentators tried to cover it with Daniels not being 100% after returning from injury, still feeling the aftereffects of a trapped nerve.

On Being The Elite Ep. 183, they actually addressed the botch. SoCal Uncensored were participating in a photo shoot, where Frankie Kazarian and Scorpio Sky were proudly displaying their newly won AEW World Tag Team Championships, being oblivious to Daniels struggling and being disheartened next to them as he kept thinking back to the moonsault botch over and over again in his head (as clips of it were repeatedly shown). Daniels stormed off after a heated interaction between the three to end the segment.

This was the start of a brief storyline where Daniels questioned whether he still had it or not, with him nearing 50 at the time. So much so he contemplated joining The Dark Order to get back some relevancy in his career. Daniels ultimately rejected the offer, leading to a feud between SCU and The Dark Order.
